ERGObone Trombone and Bass Trombone support

“It really works, I endorse! ” Ben van Dijk

Why the ERGObone?

Well, the reason for using it is actually very simple and obvious. The trombone weighs about 1,3 to 2,8 kilos (3,0 to 6,1 lb). Your left arm weighs about 4 to 5 kg (9 to 11 lb) and you keep both of them up at the same time. All the time when you play.

Of course, you can keep the trombone and the left arm up in a playing position, with continually tensed muscles. However, if you can avoid this, the important question is, is there really any sense in keep on doing it? Would the playing be better in the long run if your upper body could stay more relaxed?

The ERGObone helps you to keep a good posture and breathe more freely and efficiently. Would it not be better to lean, or even hang, your left arm on the trombone rather than keep it continually tensed up?

Yes, I’m trying to open your eyes…

If you really focus on the normal playing position, you will realize that it is really not sensible to stay for hours and hours in a static tensed position like this. I mean, really, if you could play without the static tension, why not do it?

Health issues have become important

The way the trombone is played was developed about 500 years ago. They did not understand anything about the ergonomics back then.

Today we do understand the ergonomic challenges involved in this. Furthermore, many present models have become a lot heavier; therefore that old irrational tradition of holding your instrument with the everlasting static tension should be questioned.

Comfort after short adjusting time

You need some time to readjust your perception about trombone playing. You need a moment to get used to the different feeling of the nearly weightless instrument. You also need to practise how to handle the horn, everything cannot obviously be done exactly the same way as before, but the new way is not any worse, just slightly different. After that period, you will enjoy playing with less tension.

Only after you have learned to play with it you can say whether it is good or not. But like always, it is a lot easier to condemn something new without even trying it out!

That is why we have the 30 days money back guarantee, an easy and safe way to give this new and better way of playing the trombone a chance.  Just click the Order button and get your ERGObone, the new playing comfort will surprise you!

Pros and cons

Well then, pros and cons. Let’s start with the cons:

  1. You need to learn a few new habits on how to handle the trombone both while playing and not playing.
  2. While you play, you have a lot of freedom to move with the trombone, but you cannot lift it very high up – but is that actually very important?
  3. In some trombone cases you may need to make some adjustments to fit the instrument in the case with the support, or take it off entirely. Taking off and putting it back takes about 10 seconds.
  4. The price, yes it does cost something. If you get it for 140 euros and use it for 10 years about every day, it cost you less than 4 cents per day.
  5. One more con: the ERGObone goes against the old tradition. You need to readjust your attitude! We call it progress.

Then pros, I am glad, this list is a lot longer:

  1. In general, you are always a lot more relaxed. Usually, when you feel better, you'll sound better!
  2. More relaxed upper body, more efficient breathing and better air flow control! THIS is important!
  3. Usually a lot better posture automatically. This is especially important for kids!
  4. In the long run, the possibility for playing related musculoskeletal problems, even injuries, diminish radically
  5. You do not get tired as easily, trombone playing is physically demanding even without the tension!
  6. No need to ever support the weight with your slide hand, (especially important for kids!); better right hand mobility!
  7. Soft and sensitive grip when you do not need to squeeze the trombone
  8. Trigger fingers on the Bass Trombone function better when your fingers and palm are relaxed
  9. Once you have learned the new movements, more free feeling as the trombone is nearly weightless. All normal movements can be done with the ERGObone
  10. In a band, you do not need to put down and lift the horn so often, it is quite relaxed to keep the horn for a few bars in playing position and just balance it with your left or right hand
  11. Mutes make the instrument even heavier. No problem with the ERGObone. And you can change the mute easier whey you do not need to keep the horn up with your left hand. Easier plunger playing.
